Cybercriminals in clearnet and darknet spaces often use tools like encrypted communication platforms in the commission of cybercrimes. This webinar introduces participants to various encrypted communication platforms and their use by online threat actors. Participants will gain technical knowledge of encrypted communication platforms and gain practical knowledge on how to conduct investigations that involve these platforms.

Cybercrimes can and have been committed by organized criminal groups. This webinar introduces participants to the notion of cyber organized crime, the cyber-dependent and cyber-enabled crimes committed by organized criminal groups, the structure and organization of cyber organized criminal groups and roles of members within these groups, and the tools used by these groups. The clearnet and darknet spaces where these groups operate will also be explored.

The “Malware-as-a-Service” webinar covers one type of “crime as a service” (CaaS) offered on clearnet and darknet spaces, namely malware as a service (MaaS). Specifically, this webinar introduces participants to MaaS, the Clearnet and Darknet sites where malware and MaaS are marketed, advertised, and sold, and information about them is distributed. Particularly, attention will be paid to the M.O., tactics, targets, and tools used by perpetrators of this cybercrime.

This webinar introduces participants to cryptocurrency and its relevance to criminal justice agents and investigations. The webinar will cover topics such as the different categories of cryptocurrency, common cryptocurrencies, the mining process, blockchain, and common cases where cryptocurrency is used or is the target of criminal activity. Participants gain basic knowledge of investigative options that are available to gather intelligence.

The NRTAC team, with BJA and ATF, hosted an orientation and onboarding session to welcome the awardees of the FY2022 CGIC Integration Initiative grants. The session included representatives from the 13 FY22 CGIC grantees. The purpose of the session was to inform grantees of the CGIC concept, the site assessment process, grant requirements, and the assistance NRTAC will provide grantees throughout their award periods.

This training provides investigative techniques, legal strategies, case studies, and forensic research from Purdue University and the National White-Collar Crime Center concerning how to understand, collect, interpret, and explain wearable fitness device evidence in legal proceedings. This includes medicolegal issues in violent crimes investigations, such as time of death, cause of death, and relevant vital signs.

TLPI participates in monthly calls with the Tribal Judicial Institute at UND and Western Community Policing institute as ongoing collaboration with the Law Enforcement Intergovernmental Collaboration TA provider. These calls focus on current collaboration between TA providers, update on award deliverables, and opportunities for future collaboration.
