Ms. Griffin spoke with East. St. Louis project coordinator, Jessica Fort, about the role of PC and is supporting Ms. Fort as she grows into her position. Ms. Griffin and Ms. Fort will continue with regular calls over the next few months. Donna had been providing Jessica advice and guidance on building community engagement and collaborative capacity. With COVID-19, they are now working on how Jessica can support the community as a information liaison to ensure the community is getting public health updates. Jessica expressed that levels of need in E. St.

This is the third part of a series of training modules within the NCJA Leadership Academy and is focused on Civil Rights, Ethics, Race and Criminal Justice Reform. The series began with a webinar in May by Ashley McSwain on personnel and civil rights law. That was followed by the in-person session in July on awareness and racial equity issues. Participants left that session with specific goals they intended to work on.

Matt Perkins of LISC and SME Donna Griffin joined Trention (NJ) Police Department Directo Sheilah Coley and Dr. Alejandro Gimenez-Santana of Rutgers University to present on place-based appraoches to safety including the federal CBCR program and approach general with a case study provided of the Philadelphia (Mantua) CBCR effort.

Matt Perkins and James Stark, collaborating with IACP, attended the national convening for FY2019 CBCR grantees in St. Louis, MO. Perkins moderated panels with the 1) St. Louis County and East St. Louis CBCR sites on Lessons Learned from the CBCR Planning Phase and 2) the City of St. Louis CBCR site on CBCR Implementation Phase Course Corrections. Perkins and Stark presented as part of a panel on Best Practices in Sustainability.

Matt Perkins of LISC, along with Capt. Henry Remolina of the Providence (RI) Police Department and Dr. Alejandro Gimenez-Santana of Rutgers University presented on collaborative crime reduction partnerships, including CBCR at the Community and Regional Development Institute (CaRDI) of Cornell University. CaRDI was host to a conference on Zombie Houses sponsored by the NY State Attorney General’s Office and attended by municipal officials and community partners from throughout NY State.

Matt Perkins of LISC, along with Mr. Tom Wyatt of Connected by Design, and Captain Jason Simon of the Youngstown (OH) Police Department presented at the 2019 National Public Safety Partnership (PSP) Symposium in Memphis Tennessee. The topic of the session was Proactive Problem Solving with Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design. The presentation was made in 2 sessions, the first for attendees and partners with the Tulsa PSP grant and the second to a consortium of local law enforcement agencies from the greater Memphis area.

The Anchorage, Alaska Public Safety Partnership site, requested assistance to enhance its crime analysis assignments and processes. Julie Wartell was selected to fulfill the request and conducted a two- day onsite visit to Anchorage PD in December 2019. Ms. Wartell delivered a report to Anchorage PD in February 2020 with recommendations specific to training, technology, products/functionality, and staffing to optimize existing crime analysis capacity.

The Bureau of Justice Assistanc requested assistance through BJA NTTAC to provide training and technical assistance to the two cities who will be hosting the Democratic and Republican National Conventions in 2020: Charlotte, NC and Milwaukee, WI. Kevin Preslan was selected to facilitate the assistance and conducted a two-and-half day onsite visit with the agency in January 2018. Kevin Preslan will be developing a report with recommendations specific to training on best practices/lessons learned from previous conventions on a variety of grant administration and audit topics as needed.

The Orlando, Florida Police Department (PD) requested an assessment of its crime analysis unit. IDEA Analytics was selected to fulfill the request and provided a review of Orlando PD's current workflow/workload as it relates to the crime analysis unit. The assessment occurred in September 2019 and involved interviewing stakeholders and Orlando PD leadership to understand goals for data-driven policy. IDEA Analytics delivered a comprehensive final report to Orlando PD in September 2019.
