The Flint, Michigan Police Department (PD), as part of the Flint Violence Reduction Network (VRN) site, requested a comprehensive assessment of gang issues in the city of Flint. Dr. Charles Katz and Dr. Andrew Fox were selected as providers to fulfill this request. During Phase II of this engagement, the providers conducted a working group session with 10 - 20 gang experts from Flint PD and across the city of Flint. The providers developed a gang database and gang member information card, and conducted a social network analysis.

George Mason University requested funding to develop an RNR Simulation Tool. BJA NTTAC closed the request on August 30, 2017. BJA NTTAC will re-open the request on August 31, 2017 under the Option Year 1 contract.

The primary goals of the site visit were: 1) to assess the current status of the Madison BCJI program, 2) assess the progress of the research, use of the research, and integration of the research partner into the team, 3) assess the degree of integration of the Madison Police Department and 4) assess the strengths of the core advisory team members.

We will conduct analyses looking at the impact of the Affordable Care Act on recidivism. To accomplish this, we are identifying a state system which is supportive of data linkage --and are currently pursuing CA, OH, and PA as target states. We will then need to obtain approvals from leadership, institutional review boards, and then ultimately conduct these analyses.

We are performing a sub-analysis of the Transitions Clinic Network, which was award a Healthcare Innovation Award from the Centers of Medicare & Medicaid Innovation to improve health and reduce costs for individuals leaving prisons and returning to the community health systems. We will explore how early engagement in primary care (direct referral from prison; referral within 4 weeks, and having 2 or more visits to primary care) impact return to jail or prison.
