Members of the National Consortium on Preventing Law Enforcement Suicide presented in a workshop at the IACP Conference 2019 in Chicago to raise awareness of law enforcement suicide. The workshop provided an overview of the importance of messaging, peer support, and family support helpful in preventing law enforcement suicide.
Using the Governor's objected and based on CJI's evaluation of Tennessee's current practices in the areas of sentencing, release, reentry, and supervision, the Sentencing and Criminal Code Overhaul Subcommittee, the Education Workforce Development and Reentry Subcommittee, the Parole and Probation Subcommittee, and the Mental Health and Substance Use Subcommittee developed 23 policy recommendations for the full Criminal Justice Investment Task Force. These policy recommendations provide an pathway for Tennessee to reduce recidivism and improve public safety.
CJI staff traveled to Tennessee over the course of October and November to assist in developing internal policy options in the broad categories of sentencing, release, reentry, behavioral health, probation and parole with four subgroups from the Criminal Justice Investment Task Force (CJITF). The recommendations from the CJITF will be rolled out in a final report on December 19th and used to draft legislation.

Laura Jessick, a community-based victim-services representative, asked how important it is for a team to be able to find and speak to a victim directly in terms of prioritizing the testing of their kits.
