The NRTAC hosted the 6th Annual Regional CGIC Multi-Site Training in Indianapolis, Indiana. The Indianapolis Crime Gun Task Force assisted in the organization of the conference and invited participating CGIC grantees to tour their CGIC. This year, the FY21 sites were invited to join for two days, while the FY20 sites were invited to attend only the first day of the conference. The conference was a mix of panel presentations and breakout sessions.
ATF CGICs rely on an ongoing collaboration between the ATF, local police department, local crime laboratory, probation and parole, local prosecutors, U.S. Attorney’s Office, crime analysts, community groups, and academic organizations. In addition, continued review and improvements of the processes along with peer-to-peer networking are key to success and sustainability. To support these objectives, the NRTAC team requests to hold the 5th annual CGIC Regional Training to bring together the FY20 sites as a way to strengthen the CGIC community of practice.

In support of their Crime Gun Intelligence Center grant efforts, the Memphis Police Department seeks training on crime gun tracing, crime gun sources, and firearms identification. The training audience is the Multi-Agency Gang Unit, local prosecutors, and other detectivesin the Memphis Police Department. The training consists ofthree blocks (crime gun tracing, crime gun sources, and firearms identification)totaling 8 hours.

The NRTAC will be hosting a convening in Denver at the Denver Crime Lab to serve as a meeting for all CGIC replication sites (as well as the Denver CGIC model site) under the National CGIC Initiative, as well as identified observation sites as requested by BJA. This two day convening will consist of strategic planning, one on one time with SMEs for the replication sites, peer to peer networking sessions, and breakout sessions relevant to each key player in the CGIC process.
