The NRTAC will be hosting a two day training at ATF Headquarters in September 2018 for CGIC sites across the country, as selected by BJA.
The goals for the upcoming training are to:
• Provide an overview of the ATF National CGIC Philosophy, Concept and Program
• Provide an update on the BJA National CGIC Initiative and current CGIC replication sites under the NRTAC Project
• Provide an overview of Philadelphia CGIC’s history and laboratory practices as it relates to the comprehensive collection and processing of ballistic evidence
• Provide an overview of the ATF’s CGIC data management model recommendations
• Provide an overview and examination of the role of the local and federal prosecutor in the CGIC process
• Provide an overview of the critical importance of an evaluation plan to include performance outcome measures with short- and long-term impact for sustainability and research implications
• Provide peer-to-peer engagement opportunities through the facilitation of breakout sessions. The sessions will allow for discussion and the sharing of the CGIC process and the many key CGIC roles within an agency, such as CGIC leadership, evidence collection, firearm examiner, IBIS/NIBIN entry and correlation, ATF Industry Operations Investigator, Investigation Research Specialist, Intelligence Analyst, investigator/detective, prosecutors (federal and local), probation and parole, and research partner. It will provide an opportunity to discuss best practices/challenges identified within a given role or agency.
