DIVERSITY AWARENESS, THE NEED FOR A SHIFT IN ORGANIZATIONAL CULTURE, AND THE APPROPRIATE SKILLS/TOOLS NEEDED FOR LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT AMONG COMMAND AND SENIOR MANAGEMENT PERSONNEL.
I previewed the Blue Courage Training at a Chief Conference in Arizona and would like to bring the training to my Department. The ideals and philosophies are in line with everything we have been teaching here in the last 2.5 years and I would like to have a formalized program to augment and support what we have already established.
Our agency is representing this training request for the law enforcement agencies within our regional association, which includes three counties on the western border of Arizona (Mohave, LaPaz, and Yuma Counties). We would like to host this training for multiple agencies (approx. 20) as we are the central location for our regional academy and association. We would like NTTAC's assistance in providing the training "Blue Courage" to all of our officers over a multiple day format to allow our agencies to cycle our officers through the program.
The problem the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office is facing is trying to make a significant cultural transformation throughout the organization. The cultural change is a groundbreaking approach to focus on institutionalizing the “Whole Person” paradigm (heart, mind, body and spirit) and implementing this paradigm in all facets of the organization.
We are requesting assistance with securing Blue Courage training. We are a non-profit agency and facilitate in-service training for (56) agencies, including the City of Flint. The City of Flint Chief of Police asked us to look into this training a few months ago, however, funding the training was not possible. His agency, as well as some of our others, has been decimated by staffing cuts. Additionally, Flint has the highest homicide rate in the nation. They have right around 100,000 population and experienced (67) homicides last year.
The New York City Police Department requests 7 Habits training.
In 2012, LVMPD underwent a review by the COPS Office, which was conducted by CNA. The review examined policies and practices as they relate to the use of force and officer-involved shootings (OISs) (the full report can be found at www.lvmpd.com/aboutlvmpd/officeofinternaloversight). The goals of the review were to make reforms that would:
• Reduce the number of shootings
• Reduce the number of persons killed as a result of OISs
Blue Courage developed training for Law Enforcement members. Requesting funding to assist in a pilot training of the course.
Provider delivered two day training on "Characteristics of Armed Persons" to aid law enforcement in the recognition, prevention, and suppression of violent gang crimes within the requestor's jurisdiction. BJA NTTAC paid only for travel costs; the requestor paid for the trainer's time and training materials.
