The presenter will provide an overview of The Arc's National Center on Criminal Justice and Disability, as well as its signature training: Pathways to Justice. While there have been encouraging strides made toward criminal justice reform, often people with I/DD are invisible to the criminal justice system and left out of critical conversations. Police officers need helping identifying I/DD, attorneys need to understand how to provide effective representation and victim advocates need to be aware that people with I/DD are two to three more times likely to be victimized.

NCCJD conducted the first Pathways to Justice training of 2017 in Rockford IL in partnership with The Arc of Winnebago, Boone and Ogle counties. There were a total of 67 participants. Pre/post testing was conducted and evaluation summary is attached.

DHS asked NCCJD staff to present via phone to their Disability Access Working Group. Purpose of the meeting will be on the interaction of law enforcement with individuals who have intellectual/developmental disabilities and individuals who have mental health disabilities. Presenters are from The Arc of the United States' NCCJD and the National Alliance on Mental Illness.
