CSG Justice Center staff met with representatives of Holyoke PD grant at MSU Academy to meet them in person and discuss program components/developments.
Hosted the 2019 Young Adults Retreat in Moab, UT, July 28 – August 1. 24 young adults participated in the three-day event for children, stepchildren, and siblings (ages 18-25) of fallen firefighters. The year’s retreat combined challenging outdoor experiences with facilitated conversations and discussions regarding loss and grief and included activities designed to promote useful lifelong coping skills. Participants challenge themselves, by stepping out of their comfort zones, enjoy nature through hiking, rafting and horseback riding.
The goal of this visit was to provide technical assistance to key stakeholders in Minnesota with a vested interest in improving employment outcomes for people with criminal histories under the Second Chance Act (SCA) Adult Reentry and Employment Strategic (ARES) Planning Program.

CSG Justice Center?staff traveled to Frankfort, Kentucky to launch the work under the grant work under FY18 SCA?Category 1.?The site visit involved developing and providing a presentation to agency leadership and holding stakeholder focus group discussions with key stakeholders.
During this webinar, recipients of 2018 SCA Juvenile Anti-gang Strategies and Programs Category 2 Implementation grants will receive information on the requirements and deliverables of the program. Specifically, grantees will learn how they will develop a strategic plan that is comprehensive, collaborative, and multi-systemic in its approach to ensure that reentry services for gang-involved youth focus on enhancing services while in confinement and improving community supervision strategies when released to the community.
During this webinar, recipients of 2018 SCA Juvenile Co-Occurring Category 1 Implementation grants received information on the requirements and deliverables of the program. Specifically, grantees learned how to develop a strategic plan that is comprehensive, collaborative, and multi-systemic in its approach to increase services and treatment for youth in confinement with co-occurring substance abuse problems and mental health disorders who are returning to the community from incarceration.
The NRRC conducted a day and a half site visit on September 18th and 19th, 2018 the SYNC team. The goals of the site visit were to: 1) deliver training on best practices for case management for people with co-occurring substance addiction and mental illnesses; 2) discuss how the Assess an Individual Portal of the RNR Simulation Tool can be integrated into the program's case planning processes; 3) and review the plan for data collection and program evaluation. Sending speakers to the statewide conference
In June Vera continued to take part in conference calls with VADOC’s multiple workgroup and committee meetings including another convening of mental health committee meeting. Additionally, the Vera team facilitated the ongoing bi-weekly calls with our site lead, Tori Raiford and other designated staff to provide updates on VADOCs implementation progress. Most notably, this month VADOCs continued expansion of their Shared Allied Management (SAMs) which target intensive services to their population with mental health diagnosis (not rising to the level of SMI).
