The NTCRC and All Rise co-hosted a webinar on how to prepare a competitive grant proposal narrative and budget for the FY24 Adult Treatment Court Discretionary Grant Program solicitation. This free webinar discussed new proposal requirements as well as creative proposal ideas such as addressing emerging issues, adding new tools, improving operations, meeting clients’ needs, and more. There was also a Q&A session at the end of the presentation.

In email follow-up to initial call for TTA, confirmed that Judge Korey Wahwassuck is available to attend the conference on June 23rd and 24th. Judge Wahwassuck is a consultant for TLPI with expertise incorporating custom and traditional law into tribal code. TLPI would be able to cover her time and travel to attend the conference to help provide support, expertise, or facilitation as needed.
Advised that, TLPI can set up a time to meet with Judge Wahwassuck to discuss your needs for the conference in more detail.

Thank you so much for attending our Tribal Law and Policy Institute (TLPI) Training and Technical Assistance (T/TA) Kick Off Meeting for CTAS PA 3 Grantees!

It was wonderful meeting you and having a chance to introduce you to the TLPI Tribal Courts Project Team and our partner organizations-Tribal Judicial Institute (TJI) and National American Indian Court Judges Association (NAICJA).

TTA request for social worker training at Fort Belknap. Catherine Retana, Tribal Law Specialist at TLPI, followed up 03/12/2024 to schedule an initial call to clarify TTA requests and needs but did not receive a response. Catherine followed up again on 03/18/2024 and on 05/02/2024. Catherine Retana provide contact information after various unsuccessful attempts and informed contact they if they were still interested they could reach out when feasible to TLPI or CBC4Tribes. Request was closed.

White Earth Nation is working with a nonprofit called Niibi Center with the goal of developing traditional Anishinaabe Law in collaboration with the White Earth courts. Request is for resources for development and training that might have available. Also a request for a person to participate in an upcoming conference they have in achieving this same goal. The initial call was held on March 22, 2024. TLPI identified consultant Korey Wahwassuck to attend the 2nd Annual Anishinaabe Law conference on June 23-24, 2024 at Mahnomen, MN.

FY 23 Grantee Burns Paiute Dissemination of Probation Resources; grantee was given 12 different resources for probation services to include policies and procedures, confidentiality agreements, community service, and other case management tools. Also shared some resources for code development. Total of 3 emails sent with 12 resources.

TA Request Summary
The Southern Ute Public Defender has a new staff position of an Assistant and has asked for some assistance in finding training for the new staff member. The request is for not necessarily DV cases, but criminal cases in general.
Intended Outcome
To received resources or training that will aid in the requested outcome of training a new staff assistant in the Public Defender Office for the Southern Ute Indian Tribe.

On 3/11/2024 TLPI held their Virtual Kick Off Meeting for FY 23 CTAS PA 3 Grantees. TLPI TTA Partner NAICJA (National American Indian Court Judges Association), and Deb English, Tribal Court Administrator, Cody Mattison, Contracts Specialist in Grants Department, and Danny Harjo, Grants Department Manager of the Prairie Island Tribal Community joined the virtual meeting via zoom. TLPI presented on the Tribal Courts, Tribal Justice System, and Intergovernmental Collaboration Projection, the broad range of TLPI resources, publications, webinars, and various TTA projects.
