In email follow-up to initial call for TTA, confirmed that Judge Korey Wahwassuck is available to attend the conference on June 23rd and 24th. Judge Wahwassuck is a consultant for TLPI with expertise incorporating custom and traditional law into tribal code. TLPI would be able to cover her time and travel to attend the conference to help provide support, expertise, or facilitation as needed.
Advised that, TLPI can set up a time to meet with Judge Wahwassuck to discuss your needs for the conference in more detail.
Also provided the Oglala Sioux child welfare code. They have been highlighted as a promising practice in incorporating traditional law and culture into their child welfare code and included a separate list of contents to make navigating it a bit easier. Advised that our tribal TTA partner, Brett Lee Shelton (Oceti Sakowin Oyate) at NARF would be glad to talk about the process for any provisions if you have any questions.
