CSG JC staff participated in a webinar hosted by the National Skills Coalition.  
Experienced presenters will discuss opportunities for supporting people with criminal records under the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act, and provide examples of how states have incorporated corrections into their WIOA planning processes, provided transitional jobs programs for people with criminal records, and served formerly incarcerated individuals through the one-stop system of American Job Centers.

CSG JC staff participated in a webinar hosted by CSG Headquarters. 
This eCademy webinar will provide an overview of workforce development initiatives in the states, including a high-level summary of state plans for implementation of the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act, or WIOA. Experts on WIOA will provide state examples of both the consolidated and unified plans, highlight the process used to choose the plan, and discuss implementation and intrastate regional coordination.

Governor Dannel Malloy and First Lady Cathy Malloy hosted criminal justice professionals from across the country for a national discussion on the human impact of crime and incarceration, including new approaches to juvenile and young adult offenders, pretrial justice, incarceration, and re-entry. CSG Justice Center staff participated on a panel entitled "Employment of Returning Citizens: The Employer Perspective"

AEI’s Gerard Robinson hosted a public event with Senate Committee on the Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-IA) titled, “Criminal justice reform and reducing recidivism.” The event took place at AEI (1789 Massachusetts Avenue NW, Washington, DC), and lasted from 8:30-10:00AM. In addition to remarks by Chairman Grassley, event panelists included John Huffington, Hayne Yoon, and Pat Nolan.

In this webinar, officials from the U.S. Department of Justice’s Bureau of Justice Assistance and The Council of State Governments Justice Center explain the FY2017 Second Chance Act Statewide Adult Recidivism Reduction Strategic Planning Program solicitation and its application process. State correctional agencies (state departments of corrections or community corrections) or State Administering Agencies (SAAs) are eligible to apply for this grant.

A sector-based employment approach brings together employers from the same industry along with educators, workforce development agencies, and others to address labor shortages and prepare job seekers for work and career advancement. With a sector-based approach, employers identify key skills that are valued by the industry, and job training is designed with employer input to equip students with those key skills. Furthermore, sector-based training programs target industries with projected job growth.

CSG Justice Center staff, in partnership with the Center for Juvenile Justice Reform (CJJR) and the National Youth & Screening Assessment Partners (NYSAP) conducted a site visit to Iowa as part of the Division of Criminal and Juvenile Justice Planning’s FY16 Smart on Juvenile Justice Statewide Planning grant to accomplish the following:
1. Ensure the core leadership team is clear on the Smart on JJ grant initiative and overall planning process, as well as expectations and priorities for the site visit and over the course of the grant.

The Urban Institute serves as the main point of contact for the Justice Reinvestment Initiative for potential sites. In that role, Urban monitors a JRI email address, through which it fields questions from potential JRI sites. Interested groups may also reach out via phone. Urban also responds to media inquiries and general questions from academics and practitioners about JRI.

Steering committee members participated in a special call to discuss state letters of interest to participate in JRI. Members discussed Phase II requests from Arkansas and Georgia and Phase I requests from Missouri and South Carolina.
