During this training summit, participants?had?the opportunity to engage with experts in their field, meet with each other, their technical assistance provider, and staff from the U.S. Department of Justice?s Bureau of Justice Assistance. The robust?agenda included?ample opportunities for discussion among our grantees about current challenges they are facing and strategies for improvement.

During the mandatory webinar, NRRC staff?explained the training and technical assistance opportunities and resources available to grantees. Staff from BJA?also provided an overview of the post-award grant management and reporting requirements.

All 30 state pages and several non-state pages were submitted in September. Additionally, Urban worked collaboratively with BJA to update the success stories webpage and sent a finalized page in December.

In December, CSG Justice Center staff communicated with legislative staff in preparation for the introduction of legislation that represents the recommendations of the justice reinvestment working group.

In December, CSG Justice center staff conducted one site visit to North Dakota, meeting with local practitioners and behavioral health experts to vet policy recommendations aimed at increasing access to effective substance abuse and mental health treatment and expanding the provider workforce.

In December, CSG Justice Center staff continued to engage agency leaders during implementation of Montana's justice reinvestment policies, attended the second convening of the Criminal Justice Oversight Council, assisted the parole board with strategic planning, and finalized the state's implementation priorities for the justice reinvestment subaward application.

The Urban Institute serves as the main point of contact for the Justice Reinvestment Initiative for potential sites. In that role, Urban monitors a JRI email address, through which it fields questions from potential JRI sites. Interested groups may also reach out via phone. Urban also responds to media inquiries and general questions from academics and practitioners about JRI.

Steering committee members met to discuss the context of recidivism strategies, measuring the impact of JRI reforms on public safety, applying lessons learned to new and existing JRI states, law enforcement engagement, and a state request from Louisiana (Phase II). Sheriff Boyd and Thom joined the law enforcement discussion.
