Examine steps to implement the Drug Endangered Children (DEC) Approach. The American Indian Justice Conference offers tribes across the nation an opportunity to learn strategies to enhance tribal justice systems while providing essential information on topics such as court planning and development, diversionary court programs, traditional dispute resolution, justice system responses to alcohol and substance abuse, and emerging issues that are relevant to tribal justice system development.

One way to promote a drug-free community is to increase awareness of the issue within the community. In this presentation, participants will gain insights into the rise of opiates and methamphetamines substances that have significantly impacted tribal communities. They will explore the detrimental effects of drug abuse on youth, learn to identify behaviors associated with substance misuse and understand the essential medical responses required in such situations.

OFR Activities

• IIR staff members provided ongoing TTA support as requested through the TTA Tracker, via direct email correspondence with practitioners, and from participants attending
IIR-supported convenings (Community of Practice calls, webinars, Affinity Group calls, and state meet-and-greet calls). In addition, as new OFR sites were identified, IIR staff members reached out and requested an initial introductory call to understand the site’s needs and review the resources and support available to the sites.
