IIR hosted the first privacy and civil liberties task team for the NFCA Social Media Working Group, where select WG members from Northern Regional California Intelligence Center, Georgia Bureau of Investigation, IIR and PM-ISE staff reviewed the draft mission statement for the team and discussed potential next steps to supplement the working group on privacy, civil rights, and civil liberties protections.
This meeting was held via teleconference with the staff Northern California Regional Intelligence Center as well as PM-ISE and IIR discuss our plans to kick off the work of the Privacy and Civil Liberties Team in support of the NFCA’s Social Media Working Group. The purpose was to begin framing the objectives of this team and to develop a plan for moving forward.
The IACP New Police Chief Mentoring Project is a professional development opportunity that matches experienced mentor chiefs with newer chiefs for formal or informal mentoring, supported by the Mentoring Project team. This is a valuable opportunity that helps to connect smaller and tribal police executives to meet the unique challenges they face. The Discover Policing Mentoring Center is the home of our online database which allows participants to register as mentors or mentees, search for mentors that meet their needs, and contact potential matches directly.
The Fisher College Police Department in Boston, MA requested technical assistance with shift scheduling. Consultant Mitch Weinzetl was assigned to provide guidance on what shift schedule options would be the most effective based on call volume and current staffing.
The Social Media Working Group met via teleconference in which the Chair, Dan Mahoney of Northern California Regional Intelligence Center provided project updates to the body and shared the assignments for each of the four task teams: Threat Management Methodology, Training, Privacy/PIA, and Deconfliction.
IIR in collaboration with DHS CRCL assisted the Georgia Bureau of Investigation with a peer to peer exchange with the Commonwealth Fusion Center regarding P/CRCL matters related to Social Media monitoring among law enforcement
Project staff respond to requests for information, resources, and technical assistance from smaller law enforcement agency executives. Requests come in by phone, email, and IACP's website.
Chief Chris Coleman contacted the IACP for assistance in developing an internal survey for the Ellsworth Police Department. His goal was to capture a reading on the overall workplace attitude and job satisfaction with a customized questionnaire that would identify the agency’s overall mood. His premise was that an enhanced understanding of the employee perceptions would offer a roadmap to making the Ellsworth Police Department a positive workplace.
The Cumru Township Police Department requested assistance in the implementation of an internal and external SWOT Analysis to develop a strategic plan for the agency and incoming police chief. IACP project staff and consultant Dave Kurz assisted in the development of materials, report creation, and hosting of on-site meetings for Cumru Township Police Department command staff, officers, and community stakeholders.
