Following a conference in April in which the Attorney General called heroin abuse a nationwide epidemic, PERF has proposed a Heroin Northeast Consortium Project which would develop a coordinated and comprehensive response to the problem.

The City of Apache Junction is located to the east of the Phoenix metropolitan area. The city has an estimated population of over 36,000 with an influx of over 20,000 seasonal residents in the winter months. The Apache Junction Police Department has 57 sworn officers. In 2009, the average ratio of officers to citizens in the US was about 2.3 officers per one thousand residents. One in four adults, approximately 61.5 million Americans experiences mental illness in a given year.

The Local Public Safety Coordinating Council (LPSCC) is spearheading Multnomah County's collaborative response to the State of Oregon's Justice Reinvestment efforts set forth in HB 3194. The goal of the State effort is to reduce prison use, reduce recidivism, increase public safety, return cost savings to Locals, and redeploy savings at the State level. Multnomah County (MC) is the largest population center in the State of Oregon.

We have an increase in domestic violence calls for service. We also have an increase in burglaries and vandalism. I believe the underlying problem to all of the increase in crime is due to the increase in drug use/abuse.

During the past Legislative Session, the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles (BPP) was required to keep the Estimated Approval Rates (EAR) on each category relative to the risk level noted on the matrix as public information. During one of the parole guidelines' revisions, the estimated approval rates were inadvertently left in place on a public document.
