This will be the ninth FTP training audit following the July 2020 auditor training. Auditor candidates in that training will be required to complete the FTP process as a condition of certification.
During this TTA, IJ selected recommended grant recipients, received an approval from BJA for project sites, notified applications of their award decision and invited potential grantees into the project, this included formally registering sites for the TIPS program.
In this TTA, IJ staff developed a scoring plan for prospective TIPS applications that was complimentary to the published scoring criteria and weights. This included, a scoring matrix on application questions, training a pool or reviewers, and developing a review plan. This review process was conducted with a pool of 6 reviewers, TTA project partners and IJ staff reviewing over 54 applications.
In the release of the request for proposals, IJ developed a streamlined and accessible application process for small to medium sized locally operated correctional facilities with under 500 beds. This was in efforts to distribute 3 million dollars of funding to these facilities to advance their PREA standards implementation and to increase their facility's sexual safety.
The University of Alabama at Birmingham Treatment Alternatives for Safer Communities requested an assessment of the Jefferson County court system to address the rate of failures to appear. The Pretrial Justice Institute was selected to fulfill the request. The requestor withdrew the request.
The Urban Institute serves as the main point of contact for the Justice Reinvestment Initiative for potential sites. In that role, Urban monitors a JRI email address, through which it fields questions from potential JRI sites. Interested groups may also reach out via phone. Urban also responds to media inquiries and general questions from academics and practitioners about JRI.
The PREA Resource Center assigned Just Detention International to conduct a review of all PREA-related policies for the Albany County Jail. The policy review will include recommendations for strengthening and expanding existing policy. JDI will recommend procedures to help Albany County implement and sustain the policies outlined in day-to-day facility practice. Furthermore, JDI will develop an Incident Review Checklist to aide Albany County in its review of all substantiated and unsubstantiated PREA incidents.
Steering committee members participated in an in-person meeting to discuss the FY2018 awards, sustainability, and CSG's technology project in Missouri.
Steering committee members participated in a call to discuss Urban's state summaries, phase I state updates - specifically behavioral health strategies in Ohio and Oregon and commission recommendations in Nevada, and partner updates.
