During this reporting period, the camera project commenced for multiple facilities with one invoice being approved. The Parchman facility needs to be added to the GAM for additional cameras. The Central Mississippi Correctional (CMC) youthful offender unit camera project was completed. Due to the ongoing project of training the staff on the new cameras, there is no data for unsubstantiated allegations. The agency contact is working with the deputy superintendents to get the baseline data at the other facilities.

During this reporting period, the cable installation was near completion for the new cameras. FY20 funds are being expended and may be amended to include PREA training, and other PREA materials.

During this review period, NYC DOC, the Special Considerations Unit (SCU) unit and proper housing for LGBTI inmates was discussed. PREA audits were discussed. There are 7 total facilities; the agency would have to do 3 facilities by August 2025, to satisfy the 1/3 of facilities audited each year. A discussion about finding an audit and developing an RFP was had. The agency contact will draft an RFP. An example of a contract was provided along with information to submit the audit RFP to the PRC to send out to all DOJ certified auditors.

The development of practical, hands-on training scenarios for integration into courses delivered to LEO's by the National White Collar Crime Center (NW3C). The scenarios, artifacts, and lab activities will allow LEO's to acquire forensic acquisition skills related to emerging technologies.

PREA stakeholders planning to attend the American Correctional Association (ACA) summer conference in Philadelphia. were invited to join the PREA Management Office (PMO) and the PRC for a convening held on Saturday morning August 12, to discuss hot topics and issues in PREA. The meeting was held on site at the Pennsylvania Convention Center during the ACA conference.

After discussing focus group planning with the New Mexico Sentencing Commission, CJI has begun identifying potential locations and hosts for focus groups, relying on local criminal justice coordinating councils to assist with hosting and invitations. Each focus group will include law enforcement, court system actors, corrections officers, victims, directly impacted individuals, county managers, community supervision officers, behavioral health experts, and tribal liaisons from that specific region.

The CJI team is involved in ongoing stakeholder engagement and relationship building throughout the state of New Mexico, to build confidence, trust, and participation across the state of New Mexico in the JRI phase 1 process. CJI has met periodically with members of Governor Grisham’s office as well as other legislators to plan the JRI process.
