"The New Jersey Prescription Monitoring Program (NJPMP) is one of the most important components of the State’s efforts to halt the abuse, misuse, and diversion of prescription drugs. As the state’s quintessential prescription record resource, the NJPMP provides foundational support to many statewide collaborative programs. The NJPMP is located within the New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs in the Department of Law & Public Safety, which is overseen by the Office of the Attorney General.

This presentation will provide an update to the experiences of the Veterans Health Administration within the Department of Veterans Affairs in their reporting to PDMPs since their last TTAC webinar in August 2020. The impacts of legislative changes, updated ASAP standards, and VHA's ongoing transition to the Oracle Health federal electronic health record (EHR) on transmitting VHA prescription data will be covered.

The American Society for Automation in Pharmacy (ASAP) published the first update of the ASAP PDMP standards since 2019. Many PDMP administrators participated in the development and approval of the new ASAP 5.0 standards.
Please join Kevin Borcher, Senior Project Coordinator with TTAC and experienced PDMP administrator in reviewing the history and use of the ASAP PDMP standards and the changes to the most recent version, ASAP 5.0.

Description: Community paramedicine through fire and emergency medical services departments are playing a pivotal role in addressing the opioid crisis through post-overdose outreach initiatives that respond to individuals after a nonfatal overdose. Efforts to prevent overdose fatalities through proactive engagement and community-based resource connections, called deflection, have increasingly included the use of community paramedics and have also been providing critical lifesaving intervention in the form of medications for opioid use disorder.

Panel Description
Law enforcement agencies around the country are exploring alternative strategies, called deflection, to promote safer and more positive interactions between law enforcement and people who have behavioral health needs. These strategies aim to prevent future crises and link individuals to community-based services facilitated by specially trained law enforcement officers. This panel will discuss how these efforts have helped law enforcement respond to the unique needs of their communities.
