This assessment was requested in January 2023. Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) completed onsite SME training on March 27, 2023 and identified opportunities to enhance nonfatal shooting investigations and processes. IIR provided onsite support for the NFS assessment site-visit that took place with the Metropolitan Police Department on March 28-29, 2023. The SMEs made observations about the site’s current nonfatal shooting investigative processes; collected relevant data such as crime reports and analyses, calls for service, case management systems, and intelligence sharing.

On 6-14-2023, The FBI hosted personnel from multiple PSP cites at the National Domestic Communications Center (NDAC) in Fredericksburg VA. Attendees were able to learn about the robust capacities of the FBI National Domestic Communications Assistance Center. In addition, the FBI presented their strong commitment and capacity to partner with local LE agencies via their safe streets, and violent crime task forces.

The Cleveland Division of Police and the National Public Safety Partnership hosted a Social Network Analysis Workshop in Cleveland, Ohio, on May 24th, 2023. Two dozen Law enforcement professionals and criminal justice researchers gathered to discuss the progression of SNA in the criminal justice arena, understand effective strategies, listen to practitioners on the current utilization of SNA, and discussed the various technical challenges currently facing the field.

Application is pending for BJA approval, only one group meeting held thus far; otherwise have spoken with various agency heads. As a deliverable of the STOP School Violence Award, IIR will host an in-person law enforcement listening forum. The purpose of this forum is to hear from executive level law enforcement about training and resource gaps and needs. This information will assist in the creation of resources and direct training and technical assistance. The listening session will also focus on high level discussion around adopting and implementing policies and practices into an existing agency.

As a time to “think and do,” a central focus of the institute is to concretely and constructively promote equal access to restorative justice and dismantle structures that perpetuate disparities in criminal legal systems. Throughout the day, we will be examining the challenging question of how to advance equitable systems design for restorative justice at the intersection of criminal legal processes. The day is designed with the long-term health of system impacted communities and individuals in mind.

The American Correctional Association (ACA) is intensively working to identify best practices and programs related to correctional staff wellness programs and policies to increase the volume of staff wellness resources in corrections. As part of this effort developed this resource center intending to share exemplary wellness practices in correction and create resources to enhance wellness programs in corrections.
