Police, prosecutors, city officials, and jurisdictions can request training and technical assistance (TTA) on how to use strategies in alignment with the 10 essential action of the OJP's Violent Crime Reduction Roadmap to reduce violent crime while building community trust. The “menu” of TTA, based on each requester’s needs, will include provision of resources, referral to other DOJ-funded TTA providers, connection to peer-to-peer resource agencies, virtual TTA sessions, and more in-depth on-site TTA including a needs assessment brief and strategic plan outline.

A small workgroup comprised of criminal justice professionals and brain injury experts was convened to review draft recommendations for how to build a justice system that is inclusive and responsive to brain injury. The findings and recommendations were gleaned from a literature review, policy scan, and focus groups and interviews with stakeholders from justice organizations, brain injury organizations, and subject matter experts.

In the final session of this community of practice, participants came to understand the importance of sharing evaluation results with key stakeholders and how to share those evaluation results to support program sustainability. Participants also learned how to tailor evaluation results to specific audiences by sharing key findings, executive summaries and short briefs highlighting relevant data.

TTA Need: The National Criminal Justice Training Center has been supporting Nez Perce Tribe, a FY21 COSSUP grantee, through onsite training and ongoing project implementation support in developing their tribal law enforcement/prosecutor based youth diversion program. NCJTC is currently collaborating with the Tribal Law and Policy Institute (TLPI) to support Nez Perce in the policy and procedure development stages for their new program.

The presentation introduced the Justice Reinvestment Initiative in Minnesota, offering insights into the recommendations from Phase I and II to enhance supervision practices within the three delivery systems and an overview of the national guidelines project in Minnesota. It also provided in-depth analysis of the TA strategy in Minnesota and included discussion of the goals, objectives, and focus of the Minnesota team’s TA strategy.Â

The presentation introduced the Justice Reinvestment Initiative in Minnesota, offering insights into the recommendations from Phase I and II to enhance supervision practices within the three delivery systems. In addition, a comprehensive exploration of the National Guidelines project was provided, along with a detailed examination of the self-assessment tool results for each delivery system. The goals, objectives, and potential challenges associated with the state’s TA strategy were discussed.

o   Site visit meeting with the Minnesota’s Community Supervision Leaders (September 29, 2023) â€" CSG Justice Center staff met with Minnesota’s Community Supervision leaders and the Community Supervision Advisory Committee to deliver an overview of all Justice Reinvestment Initiative technical assistance by the CSG Justice Center beginning in September 2021 and ending with the proposed scope for additional technical assistance.Â

In Session 3 of this community of practice, participants learned how to conduct an meaningful program evaluation even in the absence of an evaluation partner to objectively evaluate program success. Covered topics included designing a program evaluation plan, data collection techniques and data analysis.
