Join the Midwest Regional Children’s Advocacy Center for the webinar, “Medical Evaluation of Child Sexual Abuse: Why Can’t We Be More Like CSI?” on Thursday, October 10 from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m. CT. This presentation is designed for both medical and non-medical child abuse professionals. During the presentation, participants will explore the following topics:

Medical Evaluation of Child Sexual Abuse: Why Can’t We Be More Like CSI?

A child abuse pediatrician will present an overview of the medical evaluation for suspected sexual abuse. The presenter will outline examples of the different roles between physician and nurse providers stressing the necessity of specialized training regardless of degree and the importance of participating in ongoing education and case review for quality assurance. The presenter will also discuss salient features of how the exam is performed, how to interpret findings, and when/how the collection of DNA/laboratory specimens are collected.

Webinar - From Child Welfare to the Juvenile Justice System: Disrupting the Abuse to Prison Pipeline For Girls

This webinar will examine how experiences of gendered violence create pathways for girls into the juvenile justice system, with an emphasis on crossover from the child welfare system into the juvenile justice system and how girls in the child welfare system are more susceptible to sexual exploitation.

The office of the Santa Barbara County District Attorney became a TTA site for FY'17 on January 23, 2017. The office intends to use the intensive training and technical assistance available under this grant program to develop a pre-filing, prosecutor-led diversion program focusing on felony property offenses committed by individuals who are drug and alcohol-involved or are mentally ill. The office also intends to explore the use of risks and needs assessment tools to assist decision-making about participant programming.

NCCJD met in person with The Arc of the Capital Area staff who oversee their Family and Juvenile Transition Services. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss how NCCJD could support their efforts and promote the chapter's focus on juvenile justice issues among the 650 plus chapter network of The Arc.

The Arc’s National Center on Criminal Justice and Disability™ (NCCJD) notes the decline in juvenile crime and incarceration and accompanying rise in incarceration rates for youth with I/DD. The is a brief recap of the Idaho Criminal Justice Commission (ICJC) project to implement GRA-conformant web services supporting exchange of juvenile legal status information among specific juvenile justice partners; namely, the Idaho Department of Juvenile Corrections (IDJC), the Idaho Department of Labor (IDOL) and the Idaho State Board of Education (SBOE). The report summarizes challenges, outcomes and lessons learned during implementation. This report was provided by the TA recipient.
