The goal of this training is to help officers remain alert and take reasonable precautions when they recognize the observable characteristics of an armed individual.

• Identify common characteristics of an armed individual.
• Define the different weapon security checks often associated with weapon concealment.
• Describe characteristics of clothing worn by an individual who is concealing a weapon.

In June 2017, Center staff traveled to the Colorado Collaborative Justice Conference in Denver, CO to deliver a presentation on the Center's online learning system (treatmentcourts.org). Center staff Dennis Reilly provided an overview of the site, gave a demonstration, and explained the site's new and improved features, including a recommendation engine and advanced search functionality.

The New England Association of Drug Court Professionals seeks technical assistance from the Center to continue facilitating an ongoing strategic planning project. The Center began work on this project in previous years, and has continued to provide support to the Board of NEADCP.

Maintenance and delivery of Child Sex Trafficking: A Training Series for Frontline Officers, an online training for law enforcement that was developed under a grant that ended in 2015. This project is continuing to offer the training to the BJA task forces and other law enforcement working on human trafficking.

On November 20, 2014, an active shooter event occurred at Florida State University (FSU). In this episode, FSU Police Chief David Perry discusses the need for training by law enforcement officers, including interagency drills, to effectively prepare for critical incidents and how this training played an integral part in rapidly resolving the event on FSU’s campus. Chief Perry also talks about post-event planning and ways to support the affected community after an active shooter situation.

In this episode of the VALOR Voices podcast, Captain Brian Nanavaty of the Indianapolis, Indiana, Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) discusses officer wellness and resiliency. Captain Nanavaty played a key role in the development of IMPD’s Office of Professional Development and Police Wellness. In 2015, the IMPD won the Destination Zero award for Officer Wellness. Captain Nanavaty details why agencies need to be proactive and implement wellness programs for their officers.

LISC will be holding a half-day symposium featuring the Byrne Criminal Justice Innovation Program and our approach to community safety partnerships on March 22nd in Washington, DC. This presents an opportunity to educate key local and national leaders about our strategy and cultivate their support, much as we did in January 2014 with our Safe Streets, Strong Communities symposium at the Ford Foundation.

Instructors will present information regarding appropriate response to line-of-duty death, disability, critical incidents, and police suicide. The training is presented over three days and includes 21-hours of class time. In its 22nd year, the "Traumas of Law Enforcement" training's have been said to be "the best training I have taken in my entire law enforcement career" by many who have attended.
