this workshop will provide participants with an overview of issues that parole boards and paroling authorities should consider when making release decisions, setting conditions, and supervising sex offenders to facilitate their successful transition to the community and, in turn, to enhance public safety. The workshop will integrate current research on “what works” with respect to the assessment, treatment, supervision, and reentry of sex offenders. Information on NPRC and BJA resources and technical assistance opportunities will also be provided.
Over the last five years, social media has transformed how people communicate. Individuals around the globe now use social media to easily share ideas, opinions and updates. Because it is new and still evolving, law enforcement needs to educate itself about how it works in order to utilize it to both gather and distribute valuable information.
Financial investigations are becoming more complex, requiring law enforcement agencies to concentrate resources and skills to resolve these crimes. A thorough investigation of financial records is imperative to determine and document whether or not suspected financial fraud is occurring between individuals and/or organizations.
The course teaches investigators, analysts, examiners, auditors, prosecutors, and other legal professionals the latest techniques in records analysis.
Intellectual Property Theft Seminar: Fake Products, Real Crime
This 1 day course will familiarize students with the vast amount of location information present on GPS devices. Through a series of presentations and hands-on exercises, students will acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to extract and analyze data associated with GPS-enabled technologies, including portable and marine navigation units.
This module covers situations in which the Fourth Amendment does not apply and which therefore do not require a search warrant.
