In January 2019, CGS Justice Center staff traveled to Wyoming twice, once to review the policy framework with members of the Joint Judiciary Committee (JJC) at a Criminal Justice Investment (CJI) meeting and a second time to provide information and technical assistance to Wyoming leadership related to Justice Reinvestment data analysis and the policy options that are currently under consideration by the Wyoming legislature.

Priority Area: Ensure the Montana Department of Corrections (MDOC) prison programming reflects evidence-based practices.
Background: Justice reinvestment legislation, SB 59 requires MDOC to adopt evidence-based prison programming. In order to comply with the legislation, MDOC has set up a programming committee to review all programming in MDOC facilities, standardize the programming offered across facilities, and ensure that resources are focused on programs that are most likely to reduce recidivism.

In October 2015, the Governor, Chief Justice, Senate President Pro Tempore, House Speaker, and Department of Corrections Secretary requested support from the U.S. Department of Justice’s Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) and the Pew Charitable Trusts (Pew) to employ a justice reinvestment approach to build on prior successes.

In October 2015, CSG Justice Center staff submitted a memorandum documenting the progress Pennsylvania made through JR implementation and technical assistance. With the submission of the memorandum, intensive technical assistance to support the implementation of Pennsylvania's 2012 justice reinvestment legislation has concluded. Pennsylvania continues to hold a contract with the CSG Justice Center to expend its BJA subaward grant.

With the submission of the memorandum, intensive technical assistance to support the implementation of Pennsylvania's 2012 justice reinvestment legislation has concluded. Pennsylvania continues to hold a contract with the CSG Justice Center to expend its BJA subaward grant. CSG Justice Center staff continue to monitor the grant.

In October, CSG Justice Center staff submitted a memorandum to justice reinvestment Phase II funders documenting the progress Pennsylvania made through justice reinvestment implementation and technical assistance. With the submission of the memorandum, intensive technical assistance to support the implementation of Pennsylvania's 2012 justice reinvestment legislation has concluded. State leaders received this month a letter from BJA acknowledging the state's achievements and conclusion of Phase II TA.
