We have just received a PSN Grant for two target areas in Fort Worth. Two Texas Christian University Professors will handle the research, but what we need is assistance for our police partners who have crime analysts but need additional training. The Ohio Parole Board has discretionary releasing authority over a portion of the prison population that is comprised of offenders serving sentences for the most serious crimes. Specifically, approximately 50% of the offenders heard are convicted of a Homicide offense including Aggravated Murder, Murder and Manslaughter. Another 30% of those offenders heard by the Board are convicted of a sex offense. Our Drug Court is in transition. Some of the issues are personnel related, i.e.Dept of Public Health staff and the fact that the court has a visiting judge overseeing Drug Court. Some are related to the need for programmatic changes. Overall, we are very interested in improving our graduation rate which resides steadily at 23%.

In June 2012, Prince George's County launched its Transforming Neighborhoods Initiative (TNI). This initiative focuses on uplifting six neighborhoods in the County that face significant economic, health, public safety and educational challenges. Data shows that these areas accounted for disproportionately high rate of crime which was of a chronic nature. Further data analysis revealed an increasing rate of citizens returning from incarceration to these areas. This reentry population had a high instance of recidivism which could be attributed to several barriers.

As the Luzerne County "kids for cash" scandal demonstrated, Pennsylvania's county funded indigent defense delivery system is failing to meet the needs of their communites and the requirements of 21st century effective legal assistance of counsel. Pennsylvania remains the ONLY STATE that provides NO general fund appropriations to support U.S. Supreme Court mandated legal representation services for adults and children facing loss of liberty.

I'm looking for a great curriculum to teach ex-offenders. I operate a non-profit organization that assist ex-offenders(felons) in their transition from incarceration to society. I'm trying to set up a life skills, transitional class for my clients. I would like for the class to be five to eight weeks long and about four hours a day, five days a week. Is this something the NTTAC helps with?
