In January, CJI staff and CSG Justice Center staff finalized the “News” tab feature and added relevant articles to include on the JRI website. The “News” tab feature went live and is now accessible for the public to view. In addition, CSG Justice Center staff and CJI staff continued developing new materials for the JRI website, such as a mini mockup of new content for the “Other JRI-Funded Projects” page and new language for the JRI state map to denote states funded by BJA.

Objective 7: Develop trainings, resources, and communities of practice to implement standards.   In March, CSG Justice Center staff continued organizing the Virtual Academy Summer Conference for August 2024. Additionally, CSG Justice Center staff spoke with both Correctional Leaders Association (CLA) and the American Correctional Association (ACA) staff to discuss possibly hosting the conference during the ACA conference.

"Objective 7: Develop trainings, resources, and communities of practice to implement standards.   In February, CSG Justice Center staff took proactive steps toward organizing the Virtual Academy Conference in August 2024, including communicating with Correctional Leaders Association (CLA) about the event and establishing internal committees dedicated to the program's key goals and objectives. The committees are August In-person Event, Modules, Core Competencies, Community Forum, Webinars/Seminars/Analyst Forum, Office Hours, Targeted TA, Branding, and Website. "

"Objective 4: Establish core competencies and standards for developing hiring materials and resources for CAs and DOC leadership to assist in hiring qualified analysts and for trainings CAs in software tools, key methodological topics, and data sharing.   In February, CSG Justice Center staff finalized the community forum for internal review. CSG Justice Center staff also selected two courses and a selection of lessons to be showcased first, with the goal of gathering feedback on these courses and lessons before and at the August conference.

"Objective 7: Develop trainings, resources, and communities of practice to implement standards.   In January, CSG Justice Center staff presented at the American Correctional Association (ACA) conference at the National Harbor in Maryland. The presentation focused on further disseminating information on the VACA program for corrections  Additionally, CSG Justice Center staff began preparing for the VACA Conference in August 2024 by establishing multiple committees dedicated to the program’s key goals and objectives.

Objective 2: Technology Development Technical Assistance On April 11, Recidiviz and CSG Justice Center staff received feedback on the proposal and budget narrative and made changes to address BJA’s feedback. The document was then sent to WADOC for review. Recidiviz also met with WADOC counsel to discuss contract provisions.

Objective 1:Â Individualized Technical Assistance to Grantees In April, CSG Justice Center staff continued to meet with WADOC to discuss programmatic work. WADOC reported the removal of the director of Spokane Regional Domestic Violence Center, the agency proposing the legislation. WADOC and CSG Justice Center staff are actively discussing contingency plans for WADOC to propose the legislation in the instance that Spokane Regional cannot. In their review of the reentry process, WADOC identified needs of participants that must be established before their release.

"Objective 1: Individualized Technical Assistance to Grantees In March, WADOC reported that the legislation proposal that they plan to present during the January 2025 legislative session is progressing slowly. WADOC is discussing whether the statewide court, where the proposal will be implemented, is permitted to oversee felony-based charges. WADOC reported that the Spokane Regional Domestic Violence Center timeline for the legislative proposal is pending closure of another grant program with a deadline of June 2024.

Objective 2: Technology Development Technical Assistance  In February, Recidiviz met with technical subject matter experts within the WA DOC data division to better probe the parameters available for model building as well as to better understand the supervision data that would be available for analysis. The proposal and budget narrative/justification have been updated to reflect both WADOC’s feedback on the initial proposal as well as updated technical details and more accurate frames of the work to be completed based on these additional conversations.
