The Justice Center requested assistance in assuring that its policies, procedures, staffing and training are in line with best practices for serving our population while ensuring due process and justice for all involved.
Attorneys and Social Workers from the Family Defense Practice at The Bronx Defenders met with pediatric residents at Montefiore Hospital to discuss what takes place when they call in alleged abuse by a parent to the central registry in NY State.

NCCJD was requested to present a 90 minute session on serving crime victims with I/DD. Information was provided about challenges, identifying people with I/DD and how victim agencies can work with disability agencies to provide better services to crime victims with disabilities. An overview of Pathways to Justice training was also provided.
Kelly Stoner presented information on VAWA Special Domestic Violence Criminal Jurisdiction over non-Indians.
Chia Halpern, Kelly Stoner and Jerry Gardner met with Tribal Women's Coalition members to discuss the ITWG meeting and address their concerns, comments and questions about the meeting.
Kelly Stoner presented information on assisting Indian tribes in developing and promoting state, local, and tribal legislation and policies that enhance best practices for responding to violent crimes against Indian women, including the crimes of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, sex trafficking, and stalking. This included a discussion on VAWA Special Domestic Violence Criminal Jurisdiction over non-Indians.
Just Detention International was awarded a grant from the Office of Victims of Crime to support use of OVC funds for PREA-related purposes. Michela Bowman and Tara Graham are part of the advisory committee.
Chia Halpern, Jerry Gardner and Kelly Stoner met with the Tribal Women's Coalitions at the end of the ITWG meeting to debrief, go over their concerns, TA needs and to answer questions.
