National Reentry Resource Center (NRRC) staff facilitated conversations about program goals for the SCW team. On the first day of the site visit, NRRC staff and Dr. Upton participated in a tour of the downtown DCJ facility. Dr. Upton conducted a training on gender responsive services for women involved in the justice system and discussed with the team how the program incorporates these services in practice. NRRC staff and Dr. Upton facilitated a discussion about how the team combines information from criminogenic needs and behavioral health assessments into case and treatment plans and how incentives and sanctions are used for clients. The Department of Community Justice Research and Planning team gave a presentation on the program and performance evaluation process. Sergeant Robert McCormick from the Portland Police Bureau discussed opportunities for coordination between probation and parole, community-based treatment providers and law enforcement to identify and divert individuals with behavioral health needs.?
On the second day of the site visit, the DCJ Health Assessment and Treatment (HAT) Team discussed the process for enrolling individuals into health insurance coverage and other benefits and how individuals with complex health needs are connected to care. NRRC staff and Dr. Upton then discussed action items for sustainability and next steps from the site visit. ?
