NACDL and its partners provide ongoing technical assistance to past attendees of Bring-Your-Own-Case (BYOC) training programs. This ongoing technical assistance is vitally important to ensure that the lessons learned during the BYOC programs are not lost, and instead can be retained and taught to other colleagues.
Please check the box next to the following questions if the answer is 'yes'.
NACDL and its partners continue to provide ongoing technical assistance to attendees of Bring-Your-Own-Case (BYOC) capital defense training programs. To date, 135 teams have received ongoing technical assistance or participated in Bring-Your-Own-Case training programs planned by NACDL under the grant. Of those teams, approximately 73 teams (54 percent) have resolved their cases. Of those teams whose cases have resolved, 58 cases received a non-death sentence and 13 cases ended with a death sentence. At least 41 of the non-death cases (more than 56 percent) were resolved with a plea or other negotiated resolution, saving those state governments and court systems resources by avoiding a full capital trial and providing finality to the victims and other stakeholders.
