Questions?

Submitted by Tammy Woodhams on

Bill Babington, the recently appointed SAA, requested assistance complying with the BJA requirement for a Byrne JAG strategic plan. He was specifically interested in how other SAAs are complying and how SAAs conduct stakeholder surveys as part of the strategic planning process. Executive Director Cropper planned to meet with Mr. Babington and his staff in Montgomery October 29,30, but due to weather conditions the visit was cancelled and rescheduled for January 2013.

. NCJA has assisted ADECA in the development of a survey specific to planning for the Byrne JAG program. NCJA Sr. Policy Adviser Fran Ecker and Policy Analyst David Marimon have provided ADECA samples of surveys used by other SAAs and have worked closely, through a series of conference calls, and through the development and editing of related documents with ADECA staff.

NCJA will analyze and report to ADECA on the survey results in April/May 2013.

Although staff changes have resulted in a delay to Alabama’s stakeholder planning process and survey, NCJA continues to work with ADECA (Bill Whatley) on managing internal change and is responding to TA questions by phone and through the use of information posted on Connect 2 Justice.
An on-site visit and meeting is anticipated for the next quarter. This TTA request has been put on hold for the time being. It will remain open for this reporting period.

During the month of March AL reignited its TTA request. During March NCJA again worked with the AL SAA to develop a Stakeholder Engagement Survey to inform there planning efforts. During the next reporting period NCJA with work with the SAA to launch the survey.

During the previous reporting period NCJA worked with the AL SAA to develop and launch a stakeholder survey to inform the agencies four year Byrne JAG Strategic Plan. The survey was developed in concert with ALDECA staff and pushed out on NJCA and ALDECA list-serves.

During this reporting period the AL SAA Byrne JAG survey was closed and a schedule was set for the development of an executive summery and full report. In addition ALDECA staff were briefed on the results and given an understanding of the priorities of survey respondents.
