The Oklahoma City Police Department (OCPD) hosted three personnel from the Greensboro Police Department (GPD) to learn about its drone program. The group was given an overview of the background on the newness of the drone program and how it transitioned from older technology in the traffic unit to a patrol-focused and -controlled program with 16 Skydio drones. The OCPD demonstrated the dashboard it uses through Skydio, showing data on the flights. The OCPD discussed budget and funding for startup and maintenance and how it is working toward incorporating drones as a first responder, which will be launched and manned by its Real Time Information Center (RTIC). After learning from the OCPD, the GPD team traveled to Tulsa to learn about the Tulsa Police Department (TPD) Real Time Crime Center. The GPD and TPD teams discussed how the center was developed, funded, and eventually staffed. The GPD was able to view and use the technology. The TPD provided the GPD team with resources they could take back to their department and city leadership to help gain buy-in for standing up their own RTCC.
