Three personnel from the Washington, DC, Metropolitan Police Department (DC Metro) engaged in a peer exchange to the Miami Police Department (MPD) to learn about and tour the MPD’s Real Time Crime Center (RTCC) and Crime Gun Intelligence Center (CGIC) and attend a CompStat meeting. DC Metro had a robust discussion with the Miami chief and command staff detailing the progress of the DC project and the challenges the MPD faced during its establishment of the center. The MPD provided a tour and a detailed presentation on the operation of the RTCC including staffing, operational capabilities, ongoing challenges, and planned advancements. The Information Technology department shared technical experiences and requirements. The group toured the emergency operations center and the CGIC and observed the MPD’s efficient and effective methods. Last, the group attended the MPD’s monthly CompStat meeting. The DC team expressed a very positive response to the information garnered from this visit.
