The National Criminal Justice Training Center of Fox Valley Technical College (NCJTC) proposes training and technical assistance (TTA) to help American Indian/Alaska Native communities plan and implement systemwide approaches to reduce crime associated with alcohol and substance misuse. Through comprehensive, culturally relevant TTA, NCJTC and its partners will address the diverse and specific needs of the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) Tribal grantees and other tribes.
TTA will equip CTAS PA3 and Tribal COSSUP grantees, and other tribal justice systems as approved by BJA, with tools and resources to increase capacity to address substance use challenges impacting community safety and wellness. Key activities include delivering up to 23 customized onsite, virtual, and regional TTA opportunities intended to serve all grantees and other interested tribes. NCJTC and their partners have existing, BJA approved, curricula on several topics including: identification and management of controlled substances, including opioids, fentanyl and methamphetamine; community drug awareness; drug endangered children; integrated approaches for co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders; the nexus between mental health and the justice system; culturally based treatment models; medication assisted treatments; strategic planning and more. NCJTC will coordinate with BJA, Category 2 TTA providers and will support other national partners, including an Alaska-based provider, on related projects and maintain a presence at national or tribal conferences and/or training events.
