" The Council of State Governments Justice Center hosted a one and half day symposium for Second Chance Act (SCA) Substance Use Disorder (SUD) and Co-Occurring Substance Abuse and Mental Illness (CSAMI) grantees. The event was held at Department of Justice Offices located at 810 7th NW Avenue, Washington, DC.
Learning objectives of this event include:
• Increasing access to comprehensive and collaborative behavioral health treatment during incarceration and/or while on community supervision.
• Increasing collaboration between corrections, reentry, and behavioral health professionals to offer more robust connections to care in local communities.
• Educating and training professionals to be able to implement, expand, and sustain reentry programs for people with substance use disorders.
The symposium will feature a combination of plenary sessions led by federal, state, local, and nonprofit leaders as well as small group sessions, structured networking, and peer learning opportunities for attendees. Training topics will include culturally responsive reentry programming; data collection, evaluation, and sustainability; evidence-based case management practices; addressing equity with trauma-informed care; and decreasing medication-assisted treatment stigma in corrections. "
