Amanda reached out to Keeley for check-in. As part of check-in, Amanda requested information on SAKI successes and evidence tracking selection.
Keeley noted her site is making great strides in working on lawfully owed DNA and using methods other grantees have used (such as seeking voluntary compliance first).
Keeley also noted that they have signed a contract with STACS DNA for their evidence tracking system. Amanda followed up with contact information and a PPT from the MSP SAKI site since they also implemented STACS and did a phased rollout of the system.
Keeley and Amanda connected via phone to discuss evidence tracking systems.
Held a check-in call with Wisconsin DOJ. Checked in on ViCAP entry and discussed the possibility of conducting a second inventory of SAKs that may have accumulated between when the original inventory was conducted and now.
Keeley reached out requesting a meeting with BJA and SAKI TTA to discuss conducting an updated inventory of unsubmitted SAKs to see if their SAKI efforts have had any impact on SAK submission and sustainability of the work.
Amanda reached out to BJA with a meeting request on 3/23. Angela responded that she didnt think this needed a call. Since WI DOJ has a FY2019 SAKI award, Angela noted she was okay with them doing an inventory that covers 2017-the date they submitted their FY2019 application.
Keeley reached out asking if other sites had issues uploading profiles to CODIS if a case isnt going to be prosecuted. Keeley also asked if prosecution was a requirement for upload.
Amanda responded noting that the requirement for CODIS upload is that a crime has been committed, which is typically noted as part of a police report. CODIS upload is not dependent on prosecution status and in theory upload occur before charging decisions are made. Amanda also provided a link to the SAKI resource 'Utilizing CODIS for Evidence Obtained from Sexual Assault Kits which has a section on previsions for uploading DNA profiles to CODIS. Amanda offered to connect Keeley with a DNA SME or with a SAKI site who works closely with their CODIS administrator.
Held a check-in call with Keeley. Discussed goals of funding and evidence tracking systems. After call, provided information on additional funding opportunities and links to previous webinars on BJA funding opportunities.
Held call with BJA and WI DOJ. Discussed questions Keeley had regard grant management. Also discussed concerns regarding relationships with crime laboratory.
