July monthly check-in. Discussed updates to Phase III of their inventory and IACP's Community-Police Engagement Resource Pages. Began planning two more sessions for their virtual site visit. One site visit will be with Jim Markey to discuss how to address communication challenges between law enforcement and SANEs as well as another site visit with Amy Durall to discuss victim notification.
Recommended speaking with another statewide site about the development and implementation of their victim notification protocols. Determined when would be best to conduct the next virtual site visits. Setup monthly check-in for August. Confirm date and time for monthly check-in.
August monthly check-in with Oklahoma. Discussed upcoming virtual site visits, updates to their inventory, and progress on their victim notification protocols. Provided information to IACP's community-engagement and resource page, the National Grantees meeting. Oklahoma provided information about DYI SAKs in their state.
Oklahoma is on track to submit their Phase III inventory. Schedule September monthly check-in.
September monthly check-in email with Oklahoma to schedule a meeting with Jim and Amy for their virtual site visit debrief and a meeting for the October monthly check-in.
October monthly check-in. Discussed review and approval process for presentations, trainings, and materials developed with SAKI funding and/or about SAKI, next steps and testing plan for testing plan now that they have completed their inventory, updates to the development of their victim notification protocols, and addressing LEAs compliance with the state statute to retrieve the SAK from the SANE and deliver it to the lab. Requested to be included in the communications and meetings with the research partnership. Recommended OK send PPT slides for a presentation on SAKI to RTI for initial review.
Ask RTI Leadership about the official inventory certification besides BJA’s approval email, coordinate a discussion between the OAG and the Site Coordinator from Dallas, and schedule monthly check-in for November.
November monthly check-in. Discussed updates to their testing plan, the development of their victim notification protocols, and contact with a case in Denton that had potential DNA match with an offender in Oklahoma. OK mentioned the McAllister case is not prosecutorial, but they were able to locate where he lived in Oklahoma and track SAKs that will be tested in that area since his DNA profile is in CODIS. OK requested assistance with developing the trainings and materials as well as a communication plan for victim-centered advocacy training for LEAs and victim advocates. Recommended meeting with the SAKI TTA training team for assistance with developing the trainings and materials as well as a communication plan.
Develop a briefcase from the SAKI TTA website that focuses on materials for investigation and prosecution, reach out to various SAKI TTA subject matter experts to review Oklahoma’s victim notification protocols, and for assistance with developing the training and materials. Schedule December monthly check-in.
