Chris reached out for a monthly check-in to get an update on the status of the cold case working group that the DA's office is implementing in Albuquerque.
Chris chatted with Lee Hood to discuss the current state of things with the DA's office in Albuquerque. Lee mentioned that things were going much better recently with APD and that they had started up their MDT. They are meeting again in early February and have victim advocacy experts coming to speak at the meeting.
Lee expressed interest in chatting with SAKI folks in Jacksonville to help them work through some of their cross-agency challenges.
Chris will connect Lee and Kayleigh Otero (APD) with the SAKI folks in Jacksonville for a peer-to-peer connection.
Chris sent a check in email to get some information on a few requests. The email included information about the release of the FY2020 SAKI solicitation, encouraging the site to apply. Additionally, Chris inquired about a POC for ViCAP entry, as requested by BJA. Finally, Chris requested information from the site if they have a sexual violence liaison officer position and any details that may be helpful for other sites to be aware of.
Chris checked in via email to ask how things were going in Albuquerque. Chris inquired about the status of their MDT and if there were any impediments from COVID-19 affecting their meetings and communication. Chris asked about the potential use of virtual courtrooms in their jurisdiction in order to gain an understanding for potential implementation of a training from SAKI TTA.
Chris also informed the site about the decision that was made to conduct this year's National SAKI Grantees Meeting virtually no sooner than August of this year. Chris also mentioned several resources that have been produced lately by SAKI TTA, highlighting specifically the "Impacts of COVID-19 Discussion Series" and the "Meet the SAKI Experts Interview Series."
Lee and Chris connected via email to discuss a few things logistically about Albuquerque. The SAKI MDT is looking to reconvene in July after having a hiatus due to the pandemic and folks working remotely. All court hearings are being held remotely but they are not hosting any jury trials as of yet. They have had 3 trials continued but aren't sure when they will take place.
They are excited to have their genetic testing grant approved and they have hired two paralegals to assist reviewing files and getting started on those cases. They received a guilty plea in their first genetic testing case from earlier in the year.
