IIR conducted a nonfatal shooting assessment for PSP Nashville during this reporting period to support the Metropolitan Nashville PD’s efforts to reduce gun violence and enhance its capacity to conduct comprehensive nonfatal shooting investigations. The assessment team conducted an on-site visit for the nonfatal shooting assessment in September. This visit included interviews with Metropolitan Nashville PD’s command, investigative, patrol, crime lab, crime analysis, intelligence, victim/witness, and training staff members. The assessment team also held discussions with agencies such as the U.S. Attorney’s Office and ATF whose responsibilities intersect with gun violence investigations. Following the site visit, IIR worked with the subject matter experts to develop a comprehensive report detailing observations and recommendations for strengthening gaps in nonfatal shooting investigative processes. This report was submitted to BJA and approved in December; the report was subsequently distributed to the Nashville PSP site team and Metropolitan Nashville PD executives. Additional follow up will be completed where appropriate and reported on in the next reporting period, if necessary.
