Overdose fatality reviews are an effective method of data sharing for strategic planning, improving service provision to people at risk, and strengthening community-based responses to the opioid epidemic. Multi-disciplinary teams pool information on individuals who have experienced an overdose to identify ways to improve cross-system care. Through this comprehensive information sharing and discussion, review teams develop and implement program and policy recommendations.
In a 1.5 day, in-person meeting, those who participate in, lead, support or are interested in Overdose Fatality Review will convene to discuss the challenges and opportunities of this innovative program. Due to the multidisciplinary composition of teams, this promises to be a unique opportunity to connect directly with colleagues from different backgrounds to discuss relevant issues and trends, share ideas, exchange resources, and gain new skills to improve programs. The meeting will bring in experts to guide discussion of topics such as the public health frameworks for case review, the critical role of different team members, and the ethics of case review, along with covering the nuts and bolts of an effective Overdose Fatality Review Program.
This meeting and the work of this group supports the Attorney General's priority of fighting the opioid epidemic.
