Chris and Mary exchanged numerous emails in about a week's worth of time. Mary forwarded another SAKI conviction to Chris for social media and successes tracking. Chris assisted OPDA in obtaining BJA approval for a victim statement they would like to use on their SAKI page. Chris also connected with Tanya Poret regarding the number of attendees OPDA is allowed to send to the Assembly of Cities, to which Chris replied with "two."
During a monthly check-in, Mary Glass provided an updated about their most recent SAKI conviction via plea deal. Alfred Berry, one of their most prolific offenders, pleaded guilty to 6 cold case rapes and received a 35 year sentence, but is already serving a 99 year sentence for armed robbery. Mary highlighted the great collaboration between NOPD and OPDA throughout this case.
Mary Glass sent over another SAKI indictment for Orleans Parish. They indicted Andre Riddic for the rape of an 11 year old girl back in September of 2000. The suspect will face a mandatory lifetime prison term if found guilty of aggravated rape. Mary highlighted the great collaboration between NOPD and OPDA throughout the case.
Chris asked if any TTA was needed at this time and Mary provided an update that the Sorenson cases they have had issues with are still an issue. Chris forwarded information to BJA along with other SAKI sites information and suggested they keep doing what they are to review cases and move them along, even if they are behind schedule.
