The Arkansas City Kansas Police Department is requesting assistance to bring in the Blue Courage, Heart and Mind of the Guardian two day seminar. We are a small agency of 26 sworn officers with a limited training budget and expansive training needs. The Arkansas City Police Department had a change in the upper management within the last year with the retirement of the Chief and Captain. As the new Chief, I am looking for the best training opportunities which will benefit not only the officer, but the whole agency and the community we serve. We have an excellent relationship with the Cowley County Community College which is located within our city and we have access to superior training facilities as a result. Arkansas City is located in South Central Kansas, only 45 minutes south of the Wichita Kansas Airport. We also have a new hotel in town which can provide lodging for the instructors at a reasonable cost. We are requesting the training assistance in 2015 and our dates of training are flexible to accommodate the National Training and Technical Assistance Center and the instructors of Blue Courage.

Additionally, given the recent events we have witnessed in Missouri, it is imperative agencies do everything we can to develop stronger bonds with the communities we serve. The best way to do build trust within the community is to emphasize interdependence and partnership between the department and the community. This is becoming increasingly difficult do to the 24 hour news cycle which is taking a toll on the moral and motivation of the officers. The Blue Courage training seminar will help officers learn how to stay dedicated to this noble profession and continue to always serve the community. The Arkansas City Police Department advocates a strong bond between the department and the community in order to prevent crime and make the City a safer place to live and work. Service and crime prevention are the watch words for the Arkansas City Police Department.
