First, I?d like to point you to some resources from the SAKI TTA toolkit. See below: Click here to view these items on the website TOOLS 12 Key Questions to Guide Victim Notification Protocols - These 12 key questions offer victim-centered recommendations, steps, and tips to assist in the creation of a victim notification protocol. Re-engaging Cold Case Victims: Factors to Consider - Re-engaging cold case sexual assault victims is complex, necessitating consideration of victim-centered factors for notification. Benefits of a Coordinated Community Response to Sexual Violence - A multidisciplinary response to sexual assault provides healing services to victims; this response also needs victim advocates to function properly. Victim Notification: Why, When, and How - Following a trauma-informed, victim-centered protocol provides guidance for healthy victim contact and reengagement into the criminal justice system. Victim Advocacy for Cold Case Sexual Assault: Developing a Work Plan - A work plan helps victim advocates assist team members, ensure a trauma-informed response to cold case sexual assault, and better support victims. Additionally, AEquitas, our prosecution partner, has also held similar discussions with other sites about their concerns. If you?re comfortable, I?d like to reach out to AEquitas, and cc you, to set up a meeting where they can address these concerns and provide some additional resources to provide to your MDT team. Is that next step ok with you?

From Samantha: I have had a chance to review the materials you sent over regarding notification information (a lot of which we had previously used to build our notification plan) and the document you sent over specifically addressing the importance of the apology during the notification process is great. However, I think our law enforcement and prosecutor’s office in particular are concerned that apologizing will open the door for potential law suits. Do you have anything specifically addressing that concern? If not, then I think scheduling something with Aequitas would be a great option!
Charlie Whitman-Barr, Patti Powers, and Julia Brinton, along with Samantha and Stephanie from AEquitas met to discuss next steps on notification. AEquitas provided some guidance and recommended JC connect with their civil department within the DA's office.

JC had positive updates that the lab communication was improving and that the lab was going to test their kits at a rate of 25/month starting next month. JC is going to apply for FY19 funding.
