Risk and Needs Assessment Community Training 12-13 to 12-14
The Bureau of Justice Assistance requested assistance with note taking during a Justice Reinvestment Forum meeting. Providence Kruger, a member of the BJA NTTAC team, provided support and took notes during the Forum on January 12, 2017 in Washington, D.C.
This training will provide tribal probation officers with insight on the unique needs of specialized offender populations including mentally ill, alcohol and substance abusing offenders, and domestic violence offenders. Tips, tools, and techniques for effective case management of these populations will be explored, and participants will have the opportunity to practice skills through hands-on training, interactive scenarios, and role plays.
On November 8th and 9th, CJI staff, along with national victims’ advocate Anne Seymour, hosted two Victims’ Roundtables, one in Reno and one in Las Vegas. The purpose of the roundtables is to receive victims' input to help inform the policy development process and to achieve buy-in from victims' rights groups.
A colleague from Association of Prosecuting Attorneys contacted the project team about a potential training and presentation at the convening of criminal justice stakeholders in San Diego, California. There is a need for presenters with expertise on risk assessments and their benefits.
CJI assisted Nevada in developing various internal policy options in the broad categories of Release, Reentry and Community Supervision and Sentencing and Pretrial Diversion in two subgroups. The recommendations from the ACAJ will be used to draft legislation.
CJI will assist the Alaska Judicial Council (AJC) to develop and create performance measures, tracking the implementation of SB91.

MS is working with CJI to create and internal IRR process to ensure that the new Risk and Needs assessments are being implemented with fidelity.
