Correctional agencies are responsible for effectively communicating clear and concise policies and directives, particularly when seeking to cultivate system-wide buy-in from stakeholders, staff, and people returning to the community. These policies govern and inform staff behavior, set clear expectations, and confirm that the administration has performed its role. As such, correctional policies cannot be based on whim, but rather should be grounded in evidence-based principles that are proven to be effective.

This webinar is an orientation for FY2016 Second Chance Act (SCA) Smart Reentry grantees. During the webinar, BJA staff provide an overview of SCA, requirements of the Smart Reentry grant, and the grant management process. NRRC staff discuss the training, technical assistance, research, tools, and Planning and Implementation Guide associated with the grant. In addition, a former Smart Reentry grantee speaks about the practitioner-evaluator partnership and their experience receiving technical assistance.

During this webinar, FY2016 SCA Comprehensive Community-Based Adult Reentry Program Utilizing Mentors grantees will receive information about the grant program, including steps for getting the program started, submission of the Planning and Implementation (P&I) Guide, and Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) expectations. Technical assistance providers from the National Reentry Resource Center and representatives from BJA will answer questions and discuss resources that are available to grantees.

CSG Justice Center staff conducted a site visit to help develop a cohesive picture of MI DOC SCA Tech program. JC staff determined how grantees could increase the number program participants that earn A+ and Networking+ certifications; how to increase collaboration with grant partners and develop employer engagement and job development strategies for the program; initiated planning program evaluation; and toured MI DOC vocational village program which is the sustainability model for the program and gather information to highlight prosocial environment concept.
