The Rural Learning Community series launched in February 2023, and continued monthly throughout this reporting period. More than 350 individuals registered for this series.The dates and topics of each Learning Community are as follows:
February 14, 2023 – Implementing Data-Driven Approaches to Addressing SUD in Rural Communities.
March 14, 2023 – Cross-Systems Partnerships to Address SUD in Rural Communities
The following activities occurred during this reporting period:
• The IIR team began discussions with BJA leadership regarding planning for the 2023 COSSAP National Forum. It is anticipated that the event will be held on August 29–31 at the Hyatt Regency Crystal City. Early in the next reporting period, each COSSAP TTA provider will be requested to identify a couple of representatives to serve on the event planning team, and the initial meeting of the team will be scheduled for late January.
January–June 2023 Reporting Period
Discussions were held about adding a Harm Reduction Online Toolkit to the COSSAP Resource Center.
Planning and development began for the section of the Resource Center that will serve as a one-stop shop for all things related to the 2023 COSSUP National Forum, which will be held August 29–31, 2023. On June 12, the 2023 COSSUP National Forum section of the Resource Center was published. It will be updated as new information and resources are available.
At the direction of BJA, IIR supported a series of seven listening sessions as part of the Addressing Stigma and Reluctance to Access Medication-Assisted Treatment in Underserved Communities initiative.
The first in-person convening of the inaugural cohort of Reaching Rural fellows will bring together 68 rural practitioners from across the country to expand their leadership skills, engage them in project and systems planning, and highlight successful and innovative strategies to address SUD in small and rural communities.
The peer exchange will allow visiting teams to discuss and share best practices, exchange ideas and knowledge, and engage in peer networking events
On January 14, 2021, the U.S. Department of Justice, Civil Rights Division and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of New Jersey announced the results of an investigation of the Cumberland County Jail. The investigation looked at potential violations of the Eighth and 14th Amendments of the Constitution due to failure to screen for or provide adequate treatment to individuals at risk of self-harm and suicide.
