Hosted training for 27 LAST coordinators in Linthicum Heights, MD on March 5-7 about the proposed changes that have been developed by the PSOB stakeholders and staff. The meeting examined the efforts of the LAST program and discussed ways to increase our involvement with the claim process for PSOB cases.

The purpose of the homicide investigations and prosecution assessment and training is to assist local efforts to reduce violent crime, conduct high-quality investigations, and produce successful prosecutions for homicide cases.

The purpose of this effort is to assist the New Orleans Police Department’s (NOPD) by reviewing and evaluating the effectiveness of their current Detective function, operations, case management approach and leadership structure. A specific focus area for this assistance was evaluation of the department’s current use of their Criminal Case Management System (CCMS) by case detectives and detective supervisors.

A component of the Kansas City SPI strategy involves traditional Hot Spot (place based) Policing similar to what the Portland SPI project did with their Ni-LOC locations. The Kansas City SPI team will conduct a site visit to Portland to learn best strategies, dosages and methods to administer that type of policing and how to accurately track the resulting effects.

Toledo's SPI program focuses on an offender-based strategy which targets prolific offenders. Operation LASER combines offender-based strategy (chronic offenders) with location-based strategy (targeted hotspots). This exchange would allow the Toledo SPI team to observe how a large department successfully combines both approaches so that a similar approach can be developed and pursued in Toledo.
