Armstrong County, Texas requested guidance on required BJA performance metrics reporting, ASAP account creation and training. the RVCRI team sent the BJA Direct Grantees Rural Violence Performance Measures as well as links to the ASAP Registration List and Guide and ASAP and JustGrants trainings to Sheriff Anderson.
9/30 Intro Meeting with New Bedford site and CHJ & AHP staff. New Bedford stated that post-overdose is their focus and that they have a diversion program named LEAD (a variation of the national model). This Official team started in 2015 – with clergy, police officers, harm reduction personnel. New Bedford recently implemented a mental health component and would like more resources on this training. Co-occurring component is something new to their team – would want more knowledge on this.
The Law Enforcement/First Responder Diversion and Referral Mentoring Initiative provides communities interested in starting diversion or referral programs the opportunity to learn from established or innovative programs that have shown success in meeting the treatment needs of individuals with a substance use disorder, and in some cases an overdose. Seven sites have been chosen to act as mentors for newer programs that are trying to establish a first responder diversion program.
On June 30th CHJ hosted the COSSAP Quarterly Grantee Call. For this call CHJ invited our fellow COSSAP TTA Provider, Erin Etwaroo from Altarum to join in discussing considerations for incorporating peers in deflection and pre-arrest diversion initiatives. The discussion will include conversations around boundaries and ethical concerns; confidentiality; training and certification; and hiring and retention. Joining Erin will be Lieutenant Sarko Gergerian from the Winthrop (MA) Police Department. Lt.
