During this PSP Web event, PIOCoP members heard from Ms. Laura McElroy, principal consultant with the McElroy Media Group, and Ms. Michelle Guido, director of strategic communications for the Orange County, Florida, Sheriff’s Office, who shared lessons learned and best practices when responding to mass shootings, hate crimes, and other critical incidents. This presentation addressed how law enforcement agencies can plan for, respond to, and communicate in the aftermath of these events. Following the presentation, Ms. McElroy and Ms.

As a deliverable of the STOP School Violence Award, IIR will host an in-person law enforcement listening forum. The purpose of this forum is to hear from executive level law enforcement about training and resource gaps and needs. This information will assist in the creation of resources and direct training and technical assistance. The listening session will also focus on high level discussion around adopting and implementing policies and practices into an existing agency.

OJJDP, in collaboration with the National Gang Center (NGC), convened a one-day listening session of local law enforcement leaders and prosecutors possessing unique experience in responding to the threats posed by youth street gangs within their respective jurisdictions, as well as in implementing strategies to hold gang-involved youth accountable.

The request is prompted by the Supreme Court decision about concealed carry for weapons. Hawaii has always had very restricted gun laws, never concealed carry. The department is trying to figure out both on the political front and police department front how to get into compliance. Looking for assistance with processing current backlog of about 900 permits. Need to put everything together into a shared database. Is there a federal database that the requestor needs to be interfacing with? Are there federal rules?

The RVCRI team will host an Orientation Event on February 16 to orient new RVCRI grantees under both LISC and the Institute. The Orientation will:
1. Provide a high-level overview of the program
2. Split into organization-specific breakout rooms to discuss specific grant management reimbursement guidelines
3. Give agencies the opportunity to learn which agencies are joining them in RVCRI
4 Ask questions of BJA, the Institute, and LISC

The panelists will share experiences and recommendations for police officers working in the criminal legal system that encourage self-reflection, engagement with the community members they serve, and strategies relevant to their direct role in the legal system.

Lyons, KS requested SRO MOU examples and position descriptions to assist with the planning of hiring and deploying an SRO.

The RVCRI team provided Lyons with sample MOUs from several states, NASRO Best Practice Guide, and several Position Descriptions.
