In compliance with our BJA funding agreement, the NDCRC attended NADCP's RISE21 conference in-person, sponsoring a booth at the bronze level. Preparation began in spring of 2021 while booth materials and giveaways were designed and ordered. Eight full-time staff members attended the conference from Saturday to Wednesday and were present at the booth to network with attendees, answer questions, and demonstrate resources available from the NDCRC.

Maryland's Virtual 17th Annual Problem-Solving Court Symposium was held December 14, 2021. NDCRC co-directors Dr. Christina Lanier and Dr. Kristen DeVall presented on the use of recovery-oriented language and how making small changes in practice can have a large influence over the recovery process.

This webinar is a rebroadcast of an earlier recorded webinar. This training will provide prosecutors with the tools necessary to properly anticipate and handle speedy trial challenges for capital-eligible cases pending during the COVID-19 pandemic. The webinar will provide ample time for attendees to ask the presenter questions about their specific concerns and situations. The two-person panel will include a speaker from a jurisdiction governed by the Speedy Trial Act, and one from a jurisdiction that is not, to provide a more complete perspective for attendees.

This virtual roundtable provided participants with basic strategies to initiate collaboration with prosecutors and highlight prosecutor-led programs that are being implemented in diverse jurisdictions across the country. Successful diversion programs require collaborative efforts and engagement from prosecutors, community-based providers, and criminal justice stakeholders.

This virtual discussion addressed the importance of supported employment (SE) for individuals with behavioral health needs who are reentering communities. Presenters layed the groundwork for why it is important to focus on employment and demonstrate how supported employment can address the needs of people with behavioral health conditions who are involved in the criminal legal system.

CSG Justice Center staff conducted a virtual site visit with the 18th Judicial Circuit Court Mental Health Court team. On the first day, CSG Justice Center staff provided an overview of the visit, observed the case conferencing meeting and the mental health court docket.

Diversion programs for individuals with mental and/or behavioral health needs who are involved in the criminal legal system have proven to be beneficial not only for the individuals but also for the jurisdictions that serve them. As a result, prosecutors throughout the country have begun developing diversion programs.

NDCRC staff fielded inquiries related to research and practice in the field as well as NDCRC updates. These questions were received primarily via the NDCRC email, individual staff emails, and the contact page of the NDCRC website. Between July 1 and December 31, 2021, staff addressed via email approximately 2,000 questions about the NDCRC, treatment courts, or other resources.
